CHURCH
GROUPS
The
Sewing Circle meets each Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. in the church library.
They work diligently at preparing for the Fall Bazaar which is held
each October. Items for sale include handmade crafts, placemats
and soup. With proceeds from the bazaar, the circle has made contributions
to various service agencies, the capital improvement campaign, and
other special projects. Contact Faye Bowen at 226-3100.
Circle
#3 meets the first Wednesday of each month at
9:30 a.m. in one of the members’ homes. Contact Alanda Jones
at 584-5367.
Circle
#4 is a group of women who meet the third Wednesday of each month at 7:30 p.m.
Contact Susan Puckett 675-7949.
The
Men’s Brotherhood meets in the choir room the first Wednesday of each month at 6:30
p.m. for supper. Different men within the group prepare the meal
each month. The Brotherhood’s one fund raising project is
an Annual Spaghetti Supper which is held the last Friday of February.
Proceeds from the meals are used to support a variety of community
service agencies and emergency assistance.
Once
a quarter, the Brotherhood joins with other UCC men’s groups
for a District Meeting. Each group takes a turn hosting the meeting
and providing a meal. The major project for this group is raising
scholarship funds for graduating high school seniors. Contact Wally
Shearin at 584-5727.
The
Senior Men’s Group gathers on the fourth Tuesday of each month at Western Steakhouse
on Graham-Hopedale Road. Their two agenda items include: (1) eating
breakfast, and (2) enjoying one another’s company. The festivities
begin at 8:15 a.m. Contact Bill Price at 584-9425.
The
Senior Adult Fellowship was organized in November of 1996 and has been going strong every
since. From September until May, the group meets the third Thursday
of each month. In September and January a covered-dish luncheon
is held at the church. The other months of the year, the group is
“on-the-road.” Some of their excursions have included:
a visit to Old Salem, tours of a winery, watching an IMAX presentation
in Raleigh, and a 3-day retreat in Blowing Rock. Contact Amy Deal
at 584-3612.
The Dream Group gathers on the second Sunday of each month at 5:00 p.m. Participants gather and attempt to assist one another in understanding the images and characters that appear in our nightly dreams. For more information, contact Phil Myers at 226-7346.
