CHURCH GROUPS
The Sewing Circle meets each Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. in the church library.
They work diligently at preparing for the Fall Bazaar which is held each October. Items for sale include handmade crafts, placemats and soup. With proceeds from the bazaar, the circle has made contributions to various service agencies, the capital improvement campaign, and other special projects. Contact Faye Bowen at 226-3100.
Circle #3 meets the first Wednesday of each month at 9:30 a.m. in one of the members’ homes. Contact Alanda Jones at 584-5367.
Circle #4 is a group of women who meet the third Wednesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. Contact Susan Puckett 675-7949.
The Men’s Brotherhood meets in the choir room the first Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. for supper. Different men within the group prepare the meal each month. The Brotherhood’s one fund raising project is an Annual Spaghetti Supper which is held the last Friday of February. Proceeds from the meals are used to support a variety of community service agencies and emergency assistance.
Once a quarter, the Brotherhood joins with other UCC men’s groups for a District Meeting. Each group takes a turn hosting the meeting and providing a meal. The major project for this group is raising scholarship funds for graduating high school seniors. Contact Wally Shearin at 584-5727.
The Senior Men’s Group gathers on the fourth Tuesday of each month at Western Steakhouse on Graham-Hopedale Road. Their two agenda items include: (1) eating breakfast, and (2) enjoying one another’s company. The festivities begin at 8:15 a.m. Contact Bill Price at 584-9425.
The Senior Adult Fellowship was organized in November of 1996 and has been going strong every since. From September until May, the group meets the third Thursday of each month. In September and January a covered-dish luncheon is held at the church. The other months of the year, the group is “on-the-road.” Some of their excursions have included: a visit to Old Salem, tours of a winery, watching an IMAX presentation in Raleigh, and a 3-day retreat in Blowing Rock. The Dream Group gathers on the second Sunday of each month at 5:00 p.m. Participants gather and attempt to assist one another in understanding the images and characters that appear in our nightly dreams. For more information, contact Phil Myers at 226-7346.
